Instrument Rating Training at NTX Aviation

Our Instrument Rating program takes you from basic instrument knowledge to confident, real-world IFR operations. We provide structured, scenario-based instruction that blends ground training and in-aircraft experience to build precision, judgment, and system mastery. Training covers instrument procedures, avionics use, weather decision-making, cross-country IFR planning, and checkride preparation. Whether you are starting your rating or refreshing your skills, our goal is to produce safe, capable, and efficient instrument pilots who are ready for the national airspace system in real conditions.

How It Works

What Your Training Looks Like

Instrument training builds on your private certificate. You will develop a disciplined scan, master procedures in our AV-30 and Garmin GPS 175 equipped aircraft, and learn to make sound weather decisions.

FAQ

Instrument Rating Questions

  • You need a Private Pilot Certificate and 50 hours of cross-country time as pilot in command. If you are still building that time, we can plan cross-country flights that count toward it.

  • Our Cessna 172s are equipped with dual AV-30 electronic flight displays and a Garmin GPS 175 with WAAS, so you will fly RNAV approaches with the same technology found throughout the general aviation fleet.

  • The FAA requires 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time. Most students complete the rating in 45 to 55 hours.
